Today, we’re celebrating Cathy’s choice to prioritize her fitness, pursue a healthy lifestyle, and stay strong in the face of a serious health issue. Let’s hear her story.
When Cathy joined Fit Factory, she was looking for a gym that could help her be her strongest self. As she said, “For me, it’s strength that matters. Looks are one thing, but I want to get stronger and do everything I can to stay strong.”
After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and a heart condition, she knew she needed to prioritize her health and take control of her fitness. Cathy wanted to work with a personal trainer who could adapt exercises to her needs, create a custom workout program, and encourage her on hard days.
In the past, Cathy had been part of an aerobics and cardio gym, and she’d always loved the high-energy classes. But with her health challenges, she needed to add strength training to her workout routine—at least twice a week. She knew that weight-based workouts would help her maintain muscle tone and balance.
With her busy work schedule, Cathy would only be able to make it to the gym for two training sessions each week. However, she decided to install a small gym in her basement so that she could exercise at home. She also planned to stay active on “off days” by walking or biking.
EXCUSES & CHALLENGES
Cathy deals with serious health issues every single day, and it would be easy for her to make excuses or focus on the difficulties she faces. Instead, she chooses to find strength and motivation in her challenges.
In her own words: “Exercise has always helped me a lot with going through life’s events and challenges...even when you don’t think you’re going to make it, it keeps you focused and positive.”
FIT FACTORY SUCCESS
After a year of working out with a personal trainer, Cathy has made incredible progress and achieved amazing success. She says that her trainer is knowledgeable and supportive, and always knows when to push her in the right way. “I’ve gained so much strength and balance,” she says, “and I know that will just continue.”
Cathy works out twice a week at Fit Factory with her trainer, focusing on weight training for both her upper and lower body. During the rest of the week, she exercises at her home gym using a plan her trainer created.
Cathy’s final words of advice? Never skip a scheduled workout. “You might walk in feeling ‘meh,’ but you walk out on cloud nine. It’s always worth it...it always brings me up.”
